The Cheltenham Literature Festival runs from the 6th – 15th October and whilst we know it’s all about the books (here’s the official festival guide to What’s On), its definitely also all about the food and drink too. Cheltenham has some absolutely brilliant spots to eat dinner, so we’ve picked out some of our favourites for you to enjoy. If you’re in the mood for cocktails or a beer instead, check out our Top 10 Places for Drinks during the Festival. Here are LewisLoves’ top ten places to eat during the Cheltenham Literature Festival… (1) The Bottle of Sauce / Ambrose Street Dirty…
Dinner at the Old Stocks Inn, Stow-on-The-Wold
When the Old Stocks Inn in Stow-on-the-Wold announced the arrival of Ian Percival as their new Head Chef, Adam and I were intrigued. Ian has a first class pedigree, having previously been Head Chef at The King’s Hotel in Chipping Campden, so we felt it was safe to assume this fabulous hotel kitchen was being passed over to a safe pair of hands. You can only imagine then, our delight when we were invited to check out Ian’s new menu. For those of you who aren’t familiar with The Old Stocks Inn, it’s a modern British boutique hotel set in…
Lunch at Theoc House, Tewkesbury
Last weekend Adam and I were invited to head over to Tewkesbury for lunch at Theoc House. As we rarely head that way, we’d not heard too much about it before which made a pleasant change. Usually we’ve read so much hype before we arrive somewhere that the element of surprise is long gone. Arriving for an early Saturday lunch, it was quiet to begin with but quickly filled up with hungry shoppers. We took advantage of the brief quiet spell and spent some time checking out the decor, perusing the lovely blackboard menu and drinking some decent canned craft…
The Beefy Boys, Hereford
If the mere mention of ‘The Beefy Boys’ causes your friends or family members to start salivating, they’ve either visited The Meat Boutique in Hereford for a tasty burger or have a tendency to be a bit of a perv. Not being huge fans of baby oil or tighty whities, Adam and I were therefore very pleased to arrive last week and find burgers on the menu at The Beefy Boys’ first restaurant in Hereford. Having been invited over to sample the menu, we were keen to decide for ourselves if they truly deserve the vast array of awards they’ve won.…
Don’t Dress For Dinner; 5 Reasons Why the Dress Code Might Be Nearing Extinction
Scrolling through Twitter recently, I was surprised to read a tweet from Lumiere, one of Cheltenham’s most favoured restaurants. They were understandably confused by a recent TripAdvisor review criticising their dress code; it turns out that even when the food is on point, someone else’s choice of clothing can ruin your meal. This sparked a little bit of debate on the Twittersphere but the general consensus was that nobody really cares about other guest’s attire. That got me thinking…has the dress code had its day? Here are 5 reasons why the dress code might be nearing extinction: (1) Eating out…
Why Trust A Blogger’s Opinion? – The Good, The Bad and The Freebie
I’ve been reading a lot of posts online recently about how much value PR companies, and more specifically bloggers, bring to the food industry. As a relatively new blogger, I thought I’d add my perspective and bring a bit of transparency to how LewisLoves chooses what and what not to say. I’ll caveat this up front by saying this is simply my view and may well not be representative of other bloggers. Why do we blog? One of the main reasons for starting LewisLoves was to share our love and passion for local businesses. Sarah and I don’t make any…
Hubbox Bristol: Burgers, Dogs and Beer
If you follow us on Instagram, you’ll recently have been subjected to photos of meaty burgers, dirty fries and a mac ‘n’ cheese to die for from our trip to The Hub in St. Ives. Let’s be realistic though; no matter how dedicated you are to a good burger, you probably aren’t going to drive several hundred miles for one. Fear not though burger fans for we have excellent news: they’ve just opened Hubbox Bristol! Hallelujah! We went along to their launch night to see if it lived up to our rosy Cornwall memories. Here’s how they did: The Food I’ll…
Cocktail Making at The Old Stocks Inn
A few Fridays ago, Sarah and I visited The Old Stocks Inn in Stow-on-the-Wold for dinner and a rather exciting sounding Cocktail Making Masterclass. We had been meaning to go for a while, especially as their head chef is Wayne Sullivan who did so brilliantly on the last season of Masterchef: The Professionals, but kept being ill and having to cancel. Luckily, this time we both kept the dreaded lurgy at bay and boy were we glad we did. The Food Typically, the one time we made it to The Old Stocks, Wayne was actually on a much deserved holiday. We…
Dinner at Three Choirs Vineyard, Newent
It would probably never have occurred to me that Three Choirs Vineyard ran a restaurant alongside their award winning vineyards. However once I found out, I couldn’t wait for the opportunity to pair delicious food with carefully selected wines. Sarah and I had visited the vineyard before and knew it was a stunning location, situated in Newent. We booked for dinner on a Friday evening and were yet again impressed with the avenues of vines that covered the grounds. Upon arrival, we were shown to a lovely table overlooking the vineyard. Luckily, it was a dry, clear evening rather than…
The Cotswolds Cook Book
I love a good cook book; there simply isn’t anything better than pouring over dishes that either inspire you or leave you feeling incredibly hungry…I often find it’s the latter! To this end, you will often find me sitting in our bay window doing just that. Recently, you’d have found me curled up with a steaming cup of tea and The Cotswolds Cook Book. Adam and I were recently gifted a copy by the lovely folk at Meze Publishing, and I wasted no time in thumbing through it to seek out my next challenge. After I’d taken a beautifully arranged…
